A red eosin glazed figure 'The Thinker' by Janos Torak (1932-1996) produced for Zsolnay, Hungary, 1962. The mid century abstract ceramic figures and biomorphic style sculptures Janos Torak created for Zsolnay during the 1960s are remarkable. So simple and yet so evocative.
Janos Torak was a Hungarian ceramic artist who studied under notable ceramicists Miklos Borsos and Istvan Gador. After graduating from college in 1956 he began working at the Zsolnay factory in Pecs Hungary, where he created a large number of pieces. During his career he also created a variety of other items including memorials and sculptures.
