A cubist red marble statue of a seated woman by Frigyes Matzon. Hungary c1940. Signed Matson. Frigyes Matzon was educated at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts where he later became a lecturer. His sculpture is characterised by individual forms expressed in cubist planes. In many cases his sculptures are monumental representations of female figures. In 1986, he donated his works to the city of Varpalota, where a 130 are on display as a permanent memorial exhibition.
